Products add Internet security training to help keep consumers safe online
SAN DIEGO – September 13, 2011 – ESET, the leader in proactive protection against cyber-threats, today announced the launch of the newest version of its flagship products, ESET Smart Security 5 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5. The latest generation of the company's consumer products offer even more advanced detection technology and multi-layered security features while preserving ESET's blazing speed and improving usability.
ESET has been developing industry-leading internet security solutions since 1992 and has received the highest consecutive number of Virus Bulletin VB100 awards and the most AV-Comparatives Advanced+ awards for proactive protection. ESET Smart Security 5 placed first in tests run by PassMark Software, beating nine internet security products and achieving the best overall performance.
"Even before its release, the test versions of the fifth generation of our flagship products have been downloaded more than four million times. After thorough testing and months of development, we are proud to present our customers with completely new ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 and ESET Smart Security 5 products," said Richard Marko, CEO, ESET. "With the new technologies we are incorporating into the products like ESET Live Grid and our Advanced HIPS, we will be providing more comprehensive protection than ever before. At ESET, we always strive to deliver technologically advanced products employing the latest innovations and we are already working on developing future generations of our security solutions."
ESET Smart Security 5 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 offer a number of new and improved features, including:
- Parental Control—Helps parents keep their children safer online. With ESET Smart Security 5, the user can set up a "role" for each account (parent, teen, child, etc.), each with its own set of default website categories that are allowed or disabled while browsing. Additionally, users can block sites on an individual basis.
- Cybersecurity Training—ESET has addressed growing user concerns around cybersecurity education by including interactive cybersecurity training with the product. A one-of-a-kind feature, ESET's cybersecurity training is designed to provide users with self-paced education on protecting their computer, themselves and their family. The online training is comprised of short multimedia clips that provide essential security information in a concise, easy to use format. The training addresses cybersecurity concerns that were highlighted in a recent online survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of ESET from August 25-29, 2011 among 2,202 adults aged 18 and over. The survey, found 49 percent of U.S. online adults believe they themselves hold the most responsibility for their cybersecurity education.
- ESET Live Grid—Cloud-based reputation and protection technology to speed up computer performance. ESET Live Grid offers optimization of scanning based on the whitelisting of "safe" files. Live Grid is a revolutionary change to ThreatSense.Net, ESET's cloud-based malware collection system. Live Grid collects data from more than 100 million ESET users worldwide to build whitelists of "safe" files, improving detection accuracy and reducing scanning speed.
- Removable Media Management—Provides detailed control of external and removable storage devices to prevent malware infection. ESET threat statistics show removable media continues to be a common technique used to spread malware and viruses. Users are automatically prompted to scan the content of all flash drives (USB, SD), FireWire and USB HDDs, CDs and DVDs, so that specific threats can be blocked. Expert users can also block or allow removable media based on the media type, manufacturer, device ID, size and other attributes.
- Advanced Host-based Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS)—Offers another layer of security by preventing system-level changes without the consumers' knowledge and allows tech savvy users to customize the behavior of the whole system. Users can define specific rules for system registry, processes, applications and files.
- Gamer Mode—Allows uninterrupted gameplay in a single stroke without annoying pop-ups or notifications. This feature switches ESET software to silent mode, to conserve system resources and enhance the gaming experience, as well as movie-watching.
ESET customers will also benefit from a new Intuitive User Interface, with improved navigation and an easy to understand installation.
