Process of system loading
Upon switching the computer on and initializing the processor, POST (Power On Self Test) is executed and then boot sector on the booting disk is searched for. If it is found it is read into memory to the address 0000:7C00 and control is given over to it. If hard disk is the booting disk, code from MBR is loaded, its booting program is moved, and to its position it reads the boot sector from partition which is in the table of disk division marked as the active one. The boot sector code searches for base files of the operating system, reads one of them in and executes. In that way the operating system takes over the control of the computer.
