Win95/Weird.10240 |
Win95/Weird.10240 represents a combination of a virus and of a Trojan horse. It attacks files with the format Portable Executable by attaching itself to their end.
After it is run the virus copies itself into the directory in which operating system Windows is installed. It attacks the file Explorer.exe, i.e. the executable file belonging to the Internet Explorer. By that it ensures its activation on a high level of probability. The virus attacks the abovementioned file in a rather complicated way – it creates a copy of the file with a different extension, attacks it and at the system restart it substitutes the original file by this infected one.
While the virus is active in the memory it enables access to the infected computer from the Internet. Thus on the infected computer files can be written, executed and deleted by remote control. The virus also enables downloading files from the infected computer.
